Chestnut Hill, a Waynesville bed & breakfast, has a perfect location near the Blue Ridge Parkway and entrance to The Great Smokey National Forest. The home is hidden away atop a hill over looking the historic town of Waynesville, North Carolina.
The home was originally built in 1927 and is a perfect example of a “Dutch Colonial Revival” style home. Warm, pre-wormy chestnut wainscoting and large, wood-burning fireplaces complement many of the original fixtures of home.
The inn was built as a vacation home for a Floridian who sold it during the stock market crash to James E. Massie. The home stayed within the Massie family for several generations until the 1990's. During the time the Massie’s owned the home it became an overnight stop for guests & celebrities such as Randolph Scott, Roy Rogers, Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs who were on promotional theatrical tours in the local area.
Recently purchased by Denise & Larry Herr, they are carefully restoring the five bedroom home to its original grand glory of 1927. Keeping as many of the original fixtures as possible and attempting to stay within the looks and feel of 1927, restoration on the home began in March 2007.
We like to extend our invitation to watch the restoration progress through-out the upcoming months as the house returns back to the glorious days of 1927! Check back with us to see each step as we make this Waynesville North Carolina bed and breakfast the perfect vacation spot for you. |
