If you are looking for North Carolina lodging, the Chestnut Hill Bed and Breakfast is shaping up to be the place for you. The house is currently under renovations to give you all the comforts you might find in a Waynesville NC hotel without forsaking the charm and history you would find in an old home.
Restoration Progression
April and May 2007
Restoration began at our new home in Waynesville, NC, in March 2007. Sanding and re-finishing of the original hardwood floors on the three levels had already been completed. With spring in the air, landscaping of the entrance and grading of the driveway took place in April, along with hours of cleaning and polishing of the beautiful chestnut wainscoting.

May 2007
The real work began! No longer did we have a kitchen, main and second level bath. Mortar, plaster and timbers were revealed. An un-known chimney was also discovered! Extreme effort has been made to save as much of the original moldings and wood as possible. Kitchen plans underway were ever evolving as walls were taken down. On the third floor the original plumbing from a long ago third bath was uncovered.
The kitchen undergoes a re-model
Electricians stayed busy with the removal of plenty of knob and tube wiring, replacing it with new electrical circuitry to meet today's standards of safety. The electricians along with the plumber took advantage of many open walls to thread their wires and lines with greater accessibility. Old cast iron plumbing was replaced with pex lines in preparation of the new third floor bath and two new on-demand water heaters. Support beams were added to the second floor ceiling to support the additional weight of the new bath on the third floor.

With a good vision into the future the third floor sitting area, bath and bedroom began to take shape. One wall was removed to open the landing, creating a quaint sitting area. The bathroom, which was a previous closet was expanded to allow for a walk in shower. Cooling and heating was added with the addition of a heat pump. Insulation and drywall went up and really has begun to look like it will become and adorable area to relax and enjoy with a good book in! Still without a kitchen, we were able to enjoy the company of our good friends for two weeks.

Painting, plastering and tile application all have begun...with the hope a kitchen will be here soon! Window restoration, though labor intensive, was well worth the all the sanding and scraping of paint to see the beautiful, natural woodwork hidden below. A new roof will keep us ever so dry!
Electrical lines are placed underground
Check back to see what happens in September!
We are excited to share the restoration and progress that is being made to make our home into a unique Waynesville travel destination. We hope the updates peak your anticipation as you imagine your stay here with us.
